Mission Statement

AfterHours Denver provides necessary services to Denver's Homeless Population, primarily in the form of lunches served 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We partner with several religious and secular organizations to provide nutritious meals to nearly 150 people every day. We are 100% supported by private donations.

About This Cause

AfterHours Denver was developed by Rev. Jerry Herships as an alternative to "traditional church." We meet in bars throughout Denver on Monday nights where we make sandwiches and assemble the lunches that will be handed out the following day. We also partner with other religious and secular organizations to ensure we are at our location handing out lunches and smiles every day of the year, without fail. In more than 8 years, we haven't missed a day. In addition, AfterHours coordinates "Thankful for Long Johns" each Thanksgiving day, where individuals from across the city gather to hand out thermal underwear to those in need. We also founded and continue to coordinate "Christmas in the Park" each year. In 2016, more than 600 volunteers from all (or no) religious backgrounds gathered in a small park in front of the state capitol and distributed everything from granola bars to brand new sleeping bags and winter coats to nearly 700 folks living on the streets or otherwise in situations where they could just use a little extra help. We also grilled and served more than 500 hamburgers to our Friends Without Homes as well. AfterHours Denver is 100% supported by private donors, and we have only one paid staff member, Rev. Herships. Outside of his salary, all donations received go directly to funding the services we provide.
