Mission Statement
Suzanne Middle School is a high achieving school located in the beautiful city of Walnut California. We maintain high expectations of our students, faculty and staff. Students are provided with an academically rigorous, challenging, and enriched learning environment. The excellent teaching staff strives to provide students with a nurturing classroom environment, which allows for positive student/teacher interactions and connections. Students are taught how to develop and use critical thinking and analyzing skills. Our district goal is to prepare our students to be 21st century global citizens and to transition into the Common Core Standards.
About This Cause
Suzanne Middle School is a high achieving school located in the beautiful city of Walnut California. We maintain high expectations of our students, faculty and staff. Students are provided with an academically rigorous, challenging, and enriched learning environment. The excellent teaching staff strives to provide students with a nurturing classroom environment, which allows for positive student/teacher interactions and connections. Students are taught how to develop and use critical thinking and analyzing skills. Our district goal is to prepare our students to be 21st century global citizens and to transition into the Common Core Standards. Parents are encouraged to be active participants as part of our Learning Community. I encourage parents to review their child’s Binder Reminder on a daily basis. I also encourage parents to monitor their children’s progress via the Parent Portal, contacting teachers via email, teacher web site, phone call, or scheduling parent/teacher conferences. In addition, I invite all our parents to attend our monthly Community Club meetings and Back to School Night (see calendar for event dates). 2016-17 was our second year that our students took the SBAC state assessment. Over 75% of our students met the common core standards in Language Arts and about 70% met the common core standards in Math. This far exceeds the state average which is about 49% proficient in Language Arts and 37% proficient in math. We look forward to continuing help students succeed as we support our students by teaching deeper level thinking strategies. In Science, 91% of Suzanne students met or exceeded the science standards, compared to 56% at the state level. Our outstanding, Language Arts advanced class program, excellent music, drama, after school sports, leadership program, and culturally diverse student population makes Suzanne Middle School a positive, safe, and committed student oriented learning environment. We now offer a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) class in our 6th grade enrichment elective cycle. We also offer a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) component to our 7th (Coding) and 8th grade enrichment cycle.
