Mission Statement
The FRYSCs' mission is to enhance students' abilities to succeed in school by developing and sustaining partnerships that promote: Early learning and successful transition into school; Academic achievement and well being; and Graduation and transition into adult life. The FRYSCs' vision: Kentucky FRYSCs will establish the national standard of excellence in the provision of school-based family support.
About This Cause
The intent of the FRYSC program is to broker services, connecting at risk students and families with the resources they need to develop self sufficiency and a healthy, academically supportive home environment. Three types of centers make up the FRYSC network: Family Resource Centers (FRCs), Youth Service Centers (YSCs) and combined Family Resource Youth Service Centers (FRYSCs). My center is the Operation Care Family Resource Center (FRC) since it serves an elementary school - Olive Hill Elementary School. FRC's serve children from birth through elementary school and provide programs and services including; fulltime child care for 2 and 3 year old's (or early childhood programs), after school child care or programing for children age 4-12. The Families in Training program is for new and expectant parents and their children from birth to age 5. Features of the program include group meetings, home visits and child development monitoring. Family Literacy services and programs and health services or referrals to health services are other components of the center. The Division of FRYSC provides administrative support, technical assistance and training to local school based Family Resource Youth Service Centers to help remove non-cognitive barriers to learning and enhance student academic success. FRYSC's have established a record of success based on improved student performance in class work, homework and peer relationships as reported by teachers. Parents, too, report they experience greater satisfaction and involvement with the schools as a result of assistance through their local FRYSC's. Each center offers a unique blend of programs and services determined by the needs of the population being served, available resources, location and other characteristics. All centers are funded by the state of Kentucky based on their enrollment numbers of students that qualify for free/reduced lunches. Our funding is based on free lunch numbers but we service all students. Seventy percent of the 432 students currently enrolled at OHES qualify for free/reduced meals. Operation Care Family Resource Center has the smallest budget in our district compared to the other centers. I am constantly looking for grants, donations, community partners to help fulfill the needs of our students and families. I look for funding that will help provide: literacy events, purchase books, salary for part time employees, Storywalks, Little Free Libraries, Inchy the Bookworm vending machine, clothing, shoes, hygiene items, school supplies, summer programming - Drama/Performance Camp, Science Camps for 1st-8th and Early Childhood (Mini School thru Kindergarten) health and safety fairs, career day, snacks for students, Backpack Food bags for the weekend, holiday baskets for needy families, etc.
