Mission Statement
St. John Evangelist School accepts students from all religious, ethnic, cultural and family backgrounds. Fifty percent of the student body are not practicing Catholics. Its mission is to foster academic excellence along with Catholic values for the families it serves by teaching and modeling Christian moral development, service, and community, family involvement in education, respect and self-esteem. The faculty and staff of St. John School, are inspired by the charism of St. Angela Merici and are committed to providing a unique ministry of education in the Ursuline tradition. They believe that they can only achieve their mission of education with the active participation of families. They create and maintain high academic standards to inspire all students to become critical thinkers and provide opportunities for all children to turn their gifts outward and grow as stewards within the global community. They empower students through leadership opportunities and create a safe environment that accepts and celebrates every child's unique potential in the school community and works with families to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values necessary to foster the children's sense of Catholic Christian identity.
About This Cause
As our philosophy statement says, everything that we do at St. John School is inspired by the charism of St. Angela Merici. We actively partner with our families and community. This is accomplished through efficient communication either through our SchoolSpeak portal, in person, via email, or phone calls. Our teachers are constantly disaggregating student data in order to assess student understanding and create appropriate leveled lessons to support each of our students. St. John School also values the importance of providing opportunities for our students to develop their God-given gifts to create a more loving world. In addition to core-curricular subjects, students have art, music, dance, and drama classes. All students have physical education weekly. Our Student Council regularly educates the student body on how to be stewards within our global community. We encourage and support an inclusive and safe student-centered environment. This environment naturally presents many leadership opportunities for students. Each grade has a leadership component. Students have chores, lead lessons, put on presentations, and lead prayer. Our Student Council leads the entire school in prayer and pledge every morning. After the Jr. High lunch, the entire school observes a moment of mindfulness on a particular topic. Another wonderful opportunity that we provide our students is the Leadership Academy run by Sr. Lillian. Every summer, 6-8th graders can participate in an intensive two-week Leadership Academy. This course supports our young leaders and helps develop their leadership skills.
