Mission Statement
Located in the Ukrainian Village near Chicago and Western Avenues, the mission of SNCS is to nurture and foster academic, social-emotional, and spiritual growth of the whole child. Standards-based education prepares each student to set, achieve, and exceed individual and collective goals. As part of a unique cultural community, SNCS provides a supportive environment for all levels of learning and where all are welcome.
About This Cause
In 1935, The Parishioners of St. Nicholas Cathedral Church began the construction of a three-story school – laying each brick themselves. In 1936, St. Nicholas Cathedral School was completed. By the 1950’s, more and more post World War II immigrants settled into the neighborhood, known today as the Ukrainian Village, and the need for more classrooms grew. In 1954, St. Nicholas Cathedral School expanded with the opening of its second school building – adjacent to the 1936 original school. We aim to provide a unique learning environment where academic excellence and traditional values are affirmed and imparted. Our school fosters a strong foundation of knowledge that encourages curiosity, inspires success, nurtures self-esteem, and builds character and discipline. At St. Nicholas Cathedral School, our graduates are accepted into Chicago’s Top High Schools. Our technologically advanced classrooms feature interactive white and smart boards, document cameras and one-to-one iPads for all students in grades 1-8. Our small teacher to student ration results in more individualized instruction. We at St. Nicholas Cathedral School are proud partners with the Big Shoulders Fun, University of Chicago, Loyola University, DePaul University and University of Illinois-Chicago.
