About This Cause
Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School (OLGC) located in Plymouth, MI, is committed to the New Evangelization. Our vision is "To offer every person in our community a life-changing encounter with Jesus." We are called to foster holiness and serve as a center of evangelization and discipleship for students, families, and faculty. God is doing something new at OLGC Parish School in order to accomplish our bold mission. God is molding our staff into a beautiful body of people so that His mission can be accomplished. Our staff are enthusiastic leaders, with an expressed joy in the Lord whose servant's heart is demonstrated as a lived faith in all endeavors within the OLGC school and parish. We are equipping the souls of the students, parents, and community we serve to transform the culture. It is our passionate desire to see every single person entrusted in our care spend eternity in Heaven. What makes Our Lady of Good Counsel a Model School We are a Leader in Me school: The Leader in Me is designed to help students both in and out of the classroom as they learn The 7 Habits of Effective People by Stephen Covey. Through the use of the 7 Habits, students begin to realize that they have control over much of what happens in their lives and can be the true leader God created them to be. Leadership is the umbrella that encompasses the many virtues and basic life competencies needed to thrive in the 21st century. High Level Academics: OLGC is fully accredited by the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools (MANS). We provide a rigorous curriculum aligned to relevant standards, 21st century skills, and Gospel values, implemented through effective instruction. This is evidenced by our students’ consistent scores that are well above the national average on the annual standardized IOWA Assessment. Our academic core curriculum is augmented with art, music, physical education, computer, library, and Catechesis of the Good Shepard as well as additional elective courses in junior high in disciplines like health and fitness, advanced computer, yearbook, musical theater and advanced art. Students have many opportunities to become involved in extracurricular activities such as liturgical choirs, Boy Scouts, American Heritage Girls, Chess Club, safety patrol, CYO sports, and more. Faith Formation: Through Unleash the Gospel, our goal at Our Lady of Good Counsel is to come to know and act upon all that God has done for the world in Jesus, and are equipped to lead the transformation of our culture. In addition to our offering of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, OLGC proudly staffs a Campus Minister and Worship Minister to aid our children in their relationships with Jesus. In addition to our all-school liturgies, families are welcome to join us for Morning Mass in the school chapel at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. We also have frequent access to Eucharistic Adoration as well as Praise & Worship. Robust Sports Program: OLGC CYO is always striving to provide each child with an encounter with Jesus Christ through sports. CYO has adopted the SportsLeader program that provides our coaches with the tools to be disciples to your children. Focused on four pillars of catholic identify, mentoring, ceremony, and virtues, this program is designed to foster Catholic communication between coaches, coaches and players, and players and parents.
