Mission Statement
Saint Joseph High School is grounded in the Gospel truths of Jesus Christ. In a community that respects each student as a Child of God, we offer a college preparatory education that encourages spiritual growth, academic excellence, co-curricular participation, and civic engagement. Our mission is to graduate men and women whose lives are rooted in our core values of Sanctity, Justice, Honor, and Scholarship.
About This Cause
From its founding in 1915, Saint Joseph High School has maintained a reputation for academic excellence within a family-like environment to become a regional asset, serving students from 2 Catholic Dioceses, 46 parishes, 4 counties, and 21 public school districts. Access to quality education within the Alle-Kiski Valley is a significant concern to the future of local communities and businesses, where several public school districts have been identified as “low-achieving” by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Young men and women of all faiths, races, and national origins are welcome at Saint Joseph High School. International students, enrolled through a partnership with Holy Family International College Preparatory Program, enhance the school’s diversity. Saint Joseph High School has been recognized by The Cardinal Newman Society as a “Top 50 Catholic High School in the Nation” every year since 2006 and is accredited by Middle States Association. The curriculum, strong in STEM education, requires four years of math and laboratory science and offers students an opportunity to get a head start on college with 14 College in High School courses. On average, SJHS students enter college as second-semester freshmen, with some graduating in three years—a real savings! Students regularly compete in regional, state, and national academic competitions—and win! Extracurricular activities, including a robust athletics program with 18 sports, award-winning drama department, and mock trial and forensics league round out the SJHS experience. With a student body of approximately 200 for the 2015-2016 school year, Saint Joseph High School celebrated its centennial with doors open to many more students than the nine members of its first graduating class of 1917! Although the school has experienced tremendous growth, its demographics remain very much the same. Approximately 27% of current students’ families meet federal income guidelines for free and reduced lunches. That is poverty level! Yet, they continue to make significant sacrifices to give their children the opportunity for an outstanding Catholic education. In fact, the entire SJHS community of alumni and friends comes together to sustain generation after generation of success through charitable contributions.
