About This Cause
First Universalist Church is a liberal religious community founded in Minneapolis more than 150 years ago. With more than 1,000 members and more than 500 children and youth enrolled in our Religious Education program, we are one of the largest Unitarian Universalist congregations in the United States. We are a member congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). A Progressive & Inclusive Faith As Unitarian Universalists, we share a set of guiding moral principles, such as “the inherent worth and dignity of all,” rather than a rigid set of beliefs or creed. Our beliefs are diverse and inclusive; whatever you believe about God — or don’t — you will be welcomed here and challenged to become your best self. A Unitarian Universalist has both the freedom and responsibility to explore a variety of sources of wisdom — religious, scientific and experiential — in order to grow on an intellectual, emotional and spiritual level. A Welcoming & Supportive Community We nurture individuals and families of all kinds. We are a community that welcomes people of diverse backgrounds and identities — race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, ability/disability, class, age, language, citizenship status, and more. We nurture spiritual growth in community and we gather in worship to celebrate our connection with one another, with our higher purpose, and with the mystery of life. Our members and friends find a supportive community that offers care during life’s ups and downs. A Multigenerational, Multicultural Congregation Our faith calls us to be a multi-racial, multi-cultural, and intergenerational faith community of mutual caring and support where people bring all of who they are and welcome each other with joy. Our sense of who we are as a community of faith is ever expanding. People Committed to Acting for Justice in the World On issues like racial justice, marriage equality, LGBTQ rights, housing justice, and environmental change, we live out our values every day. We are brave, curious, and compassionate thinkers and doers, aligned in our desire to make a positive difference. We have a track record of standing on the side of love, justice, and peace.
