Mission Statement

Mission Statement The Charity Centre for Children and Youth Development (CCCYD) was established in 2005 in Zambia’s Solwezi District as a community response to a multitude of health, educational, and social crises exacerbated by HIV/AIDS. CCCYD hopes to provide its community members – particularly women, children, and orphans – with the resources they need to succeed in order to promote sustainable development in the region. To do so, CCCYD offers educational opportunities, vocational training, financial literacy education, and community-building assistance to those who live in the Solwezi District. Vision Statement The Charity Centre for Children and Youth Development (CCCYD) hopes to expand significantly in the future in order to assist the greatest number of the vulnerable population in the Solwezi District as possible. Over the next five years, CCCYD will work to expand its funding in both the grant and crowdfunding sectors with the goal of using this funding to build more classrooms, hire more teachers, and offer more levels of education to students. Furthermore, CCCYD hopes to expand its skill development offerings and provide the chance for members of its community to gain certifications in skills like sewing, carpentry, and computer service. Lastly, CCCYD wants to increase its capacity to promote women’s empowerment and financial success in the region. CCCYD's Origin Story Alex Bwaluka, CCCYD Founder and Executive Director, was raised with a single mother who had him at the age of 15. Throughout his life, he continuously worked to support his own education with the goal on one day attaining a degree and helping children who were in the same position as him. At the age of 12, he created a small business selling livestock, walking eight days weekly from Kasempa, Zambia to the city of Kipushi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to sell his produce. Despite his circumstances, he was resolute on attaining an education. In 2018, he completed his Bachelor's Degree in Development Studies at the Zambian Open University and graduated in September of 2017. His dedication and passion for helping children who, like him, have grown up with disadvantaged circumstances, led him to establish CCCYD in 2005. Since then, his dedicated team has worked with hundreds of people in his community as well as internationally to send orphans and vulnerable children to school. Furthermore, he has expanded his organization to provide vocational training and micro entrepreneurship skills to local woman and youth. CCCYD has trained over 3,000 women and youths in agricultural and micro-business innovation, a project aimed at enhancing financial literacy education among women and the youths in the community. In 2017, CCCYD established the Fortune School of Excellence to provide pupils with primary education, virtual mentorship, and basic computer skills which now has over 450 students enrolled. CCCYD has also worked with the World Canada Foundation to offer post secondary education to vulnerable girls in Zambia. CCCYD successfully sent 21 young women to university on full-ride scholarships. Alex aims to continue advancing his lifelong passion and supporting the needs of the disadvantaged Zambian youth and young women. Through donations and volunteer assistance, he can continue improving hundreds of more lives and further CCCYD's impact.
