Role Overview:
As a Kitchen Support Volunteer, you will assist in preparing, cooking, and packaging meals in a commercial kitchen setting. Your efforts will directly contribute to nourishing those in need while learning valuable kitchen skills in a fast-paced, supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with meal preparation, including chopping, mixing, and portioning ingredients.
Operate and clean kitchen equipment, such as tilt skillets, convection ovens, and grills.
Package meals into biodegradable containers, ensuring correct labeling (type, name, date, and allergens).
Support with cleaning and maintaining a hygienic workspace during and after shifts.
Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure high-quality meal production.

Join us as we plant, harvest, weed and maintain the fields of Harvest Solutions Farm located just down the road from the Food Bank in Irvine. These are outdoor opportunities. Shifts are Tuesday through Saturday, open to volunteers ages 7 and older with an adult chaperone.

Harvest Solutions Farm is a partnership with the UC South Coast Research and Extension Center and Solutions for Urban Agriculture.

Participants in our Distribution Center volunteer shifts process nutritious food to be distributed to our Partner Network and the communities they feed. Volunteers assist in a variety of food processing projects, including sorting and inspecting produce, packaged foods, crates and boxes at our Distribution Center in Irvine. This is an indoor opportunity, open to volunteers ages 13 and older with an adult chaperone. Shifts are Monday through Saturday.

Help us feed Hoosier kids and their families. Every month, the Mid-North Food Pantry provides supplemental food for more than 1500 families-- that's at least 3500 people, and nearly half are children. You will touch lives and make a difference by volunteering.

Please arrive by 9:30 if this is your first time to volunteer for a brief orientation before we start serving our guests at 10:00.

You are welcome to stay past noon if you are able.

Monday pantry days are held outside. Wednesdays and Fridays are inside. If you are interested in helping stock the pantry, work registration, or collect donations, please sign up on our volunteer page.

Roles and Responsibilities

ROLES:
The Marketing & Communications Committee plays a vital role in supporting the organization’s mission by creating and enhancing awareness of its programs, services, and fundraising efforts. The committee works to develop and execute strategies that communicate the organization’s message effectively to stakeholders, including clients, donors, volunteers, and the community at large.

The committee's responsibilities include assisting with:
• Quarterly newsletters
• Social media strategy and content creation
• Website updates, including blog articles and visual design
• Graphic design for campaigns and events
• Website development and enhancements
• Stakeholder engagement through thank-you calls and outreach
• Marketing for fundraising campaigns
• Press releases and fostering media connections

Note: Committee members are not required to have expertise in all these areas. Members contribute based on their skills, interests, and availability, and additional support can be provided through partnerships or volunteers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborate with the Executive Director and staff to develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications plan.
2. Assist in content creation, including writing, editing, and designing materials for newsletters, blogs, and social media.
3. Provide insights on improving the organization’s online presence, including social media channels and website updates.
4. Support the promotion of fundraising campaigns and events, ensuring cohesive and impactful messaging.
5. Strengthen the organization’s connections to local media outlets by assisting with press releases and outreach efforts.
6. Participate in thank-you calls and other stakeholder engagement initiatives.
7. Periodically review marketing strategies and outcomes, offering recommendations for improvement to the board and staff.

COMMITMENTS:
1. Attend at least 80% of Marketing & Communications Committee meetings.
2. Dedicate approximately 2–5 hours per month, including participation in meetings, project work, and stakeholder outreach.
3. Support specific projects or campaigns aligned with your skills and interests.
4. Maintain a collaborative approach by working closely with staff partners and other committee members.

Roles and Responsibilities

ROLES:
The Fundraising Committee supports the organization’s mission by providing input, guidance, and active participation in financial development initiatives. The committee is responsible for ensuring the organization raises adequate funds to sustain its service delivery programs and meet its financial obligations to vendors, corporate partners, and the community. These efforts include, but are not limited to:
• Individual giving campaigns
• Special events
• Direct mail and marketing efforts
• In-kind donations

A Grants Sub-Committee focuses specifically on securing and managing grants, including application and reporting processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborate with the Executive Director and board members to execute the organization’s fundraising plan.
2. Facilitate networking opportunities to connect the organization with potential donors and community supporters.
3. Actively participate in the planning, solicitation, and execution of annual fundraising initiatives.
4. Assist in donor stewardship by executing plans to recognize and thank donors.
5. Periodically evaluate fundraising outcomes and provide recommendations for improvement to the Board of Directors.

COMMITMENTS:
1. Attend at least 80% of Fundraising Committee meetings.
2. Make monthly thank-you calls to donors.
3. Collaborate with staff partners to develop and implement solicitation action plans.
4. Dedicate approximately 2–4 hours per month, including participation in committee meetings and related activities.

Operations Committee
Roles and Responsibilities

ROLES:
The Operations Committee ensures the Mid-North Food Pantry operates efficiently, safely, and in alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements. The committee provides guidance on operational processes, compliance, and service delivery to ensure high-quality support for those we serve.

The committee focuses on:
• Establishing and maintaining best practices for pantry operations
• Ensuring compliance with TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) and other applicable guidelines
• Evaluating and improving day-to-day pantry processes, including food distribution, storage, and volunteer coordination
• Advising on safety and quality standards for food handling and delivery
• Supporting strategic decisions around operational growth and efficiency

Note: While experience in pantry operations, food delivery, or food services is helpful, it is not a requirement. Members with a passion for improving service delivery and operational excellence are encouraged to join.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Work with the Executive Director and staff to evaluate and improve operational processes.
2. Ensure compliance with TEFAP and other local, state, and federal regulations related to food safety and distribution.
3. Provide recommendations for training volunteers and staff on safety and operational protocols.
4. Assist in implementing and reviewing operational policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
5. Participate in periodic assessments of pantry facilities and operations to identify areas for improvement.
6. Offer insights and strategies to support the pantry’s capacity to meet increasing demand.
7. Provide expertise or connections related to food services, logistics, or compliance when applicable.

COMMITMENTS:
1. Attend at least 80% of Operations Committee meetings.
2. Dedicate approximately 2–4 hours per month, including meetings, assessments, and related tasks.
3. Support specific projects or initiatives based on individual skills and expertise.
4. Collaborate with staff partners and other committee members to address immediate and long-term operational needs.
