Santropol Roulant is an intergenerational community that grows, prepares, and delivers food. In doing so, we create a continuum of engaging programs that help to increase food security and build a stronger social fabric for Montrealers.
Volunteers of all ages and walks of life can gain from and give to the social inclusion facilitated by the Roulant’s varied programming: a Meals-on-Wheels service, urban and peri-urban agriculture, educational activities, intergenerational community events, frozen meal and organic produce distribution, volunteer-run collectives (bike workshop, urban fruit harvest, apiculture, vermicompost and mushroom cultivation) and more.
By choosing to volunteer with the Roulant, you will be directly contributing to food security and social inclusion in Montreal by:
- Preparing and delivering high-quality, nutritious meals and enriching intergenerational relationships through our Meals-on-Wheels program.
- Growing fresh produce for our kitchen and food relief baskets in one of our urban agriculture gardens or at our organic farm.
These area also great opportunities to develop new cooking and gardening skills!

The added expense of the holiday season can be challenging for military families. Operation Homefront and local community partners recognize that many military families are separated during this time due to deployments, and others travel long distances to be together. Holiday Meals for Military is our way of saying thanks for your service and the sacrifices that you have made for our country.

Volunteers will assist in packing meal kits, decorating the venue, engaging and networking with military families, and cleaning up the site after the event.

Program Details

We provide delicious, healthy meals to individuals in Glace Bay and surrounding areas who are unable to prepare meals for themselves.

Meals on Wheels focuses on caring for individuals whose diminished mobility makes it hard to shop for food, prepare meals or socialize with others. Generally programs serve adults 60 and over, although age requirements can vary.

Why it Matters:

Nutritious meals are a key factor in keeping you or your loved one in their own home, but sometimes shopping and cooking can be too much. We can help ensure that healthy meals are one less thing the older adults in our community have to worry about.

Meals are delivered in Glace Bay, Port Morien to Donkin, Reserve Mines, Dominion
Meals are delivered Monday - Thursday, between 3-4pm

Volunteers must:
Have a valid drivers license (or volunteer with a partner who will be the driver)
Agree to submit a criminal record check and vulnerable sector search
Show proof of Covid vaccine
Be available to deliver meals starting at 3:30pm on their selected day
Commit to at least one day (1 hour)/ week*

*Employee group or service group are encouraged to sign up to 'adopt a route' so shifts can be divided up between several group members.
