About G.R.O.W
Growing Real Opportunities in the Workforce (G.R.O.W.) trains educators to empower their students to align who they are with what they want to do. GROW's curriculum does this by taking students through a fluid process of self-awareness, exploration of careers and the tools for students to be able to achieve their goals. Research has shown that programs that focus on career education and strengths-based self-assessment can help prevent dropouts and increase students’ academic performance. We reach youth at a critical time in their development, embed confidence in their ability to contribute to society, and introduce careers in emerging sectors that most youth are unaware of.

G.R.O.W.’s programs were developed to empower underserved and at-risk youth to take ownership of their education, careers, and futures. We help student identify their internal compass before starting the career preparation process. By doing so students have a clear understanding of WHERE they are headed and WHY.

Caseworkers have told us that our class has transformed students in all aspects of their lives and has deeply impacted their social-emotional development. One student commented that the class "saved her life." Another student said after taking our class he understood for the first time the importance of school and is now engaged in the classroom.

Well, those are just a couple benefits emerging from student participation in science-fair activities. We invite you to get involved in our effort to empower the youth of Weld, Larimer, and Jackson counties to engage in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics pursuits through science fair participation at the regional level.

The Longs Peak Science & Engineering Fair (LPSEF), a 501(c)(3) organization, is the only Colorado science fair serving Weld, Larimer, and Jackson County 5th thru 12th grade students. Each year, over 2500 students from our region participate in school and district fairs determined to move on to regional competition at the LPSEF. We anticipate ~350 student entrants at the 2020 event, all striving to advance to higher-level competition at the state and international fairs. Winning at any level provides a propitious boost to a student scientist or engineer’s future. As most non-profits do, we rely on the community coming together to make the LPSEF work — and to keep it a high-quality, well-respected regional competition. In addition to monetary support and awards, nearly 200 engineers, scientists, educators, and college students are needed to adequately judge the anticipated 350 student researchers who will present ~300 innovative science-fair projects at the 2020 event on Wednesday, February 26th.

The February 26th fair will again be held at the Island Grove Event Center in Greeley, Colorado. The success of the fair depends on both increased and new donor support as well as increased volunteerism.

Your involvement is not limited to cash and merchandise gifts—donations of time and expertise are also highly valued. On the day of the event—Wednesday, February 26—you and/or your employees can get directly involved by volunteering as display inspectors and project judges. Opportunity Details

150 students will participate in a water quality testing and wetlands simulation. The students will use various manipulatives to simulate a wetland and understand the vital importance that wetlands have in our ecosystems. They will also learn how to use "testing kits" to assess the quality of water in a creek or stream.

Judges needed for students ages 4th to 12th grade on Space Settlement Design and Emerging Technology. This opportunity time will consist of a morning hour, afternoon hour, and one hour of deliberation. Total 2 hours committment for Mid-January, 2021

The 6th Annual Cities in Space® Competition offers students access to those who currently work in the space industry and space-oriented academia. This January, students will come together virtually, to present, compete and learn from one another about building a new world beyond Earth and how to create a surviving and thriving community. At Cities in Space®, when they are not presenting and being judged by industry professionals on their team projects, competing students have the opportunity to listen to speakers at the conference, and to interact with scientists, engineers, NASA experts, New Space leaders, makers, and astronauts rhrough our private break out rooms for competiting teams and teachers only.

STEAMSPACE Education Outreach Mission:
To offer diverse and explorative educational experiences to all young minds, surpassing the boundaries of race, economics, gender, ideology, disability and learning differences, encouraging the discovery and pursuit of paths towards future careers in college and beyond, with a particular focus on all areas in the domain of space and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math). The Y’s Togetherhood program connects people from all backgrounds to plan and carry out volunteer projects that address a real need in their community. Togetherhood leverages the Y’s charitable mission to unlock people’s potential to improve lives and create a more connected society.

The Hernando County Family YMCA Togetherhood Group is completing a campus beautification project at Dolores Parrott Middle School, a local middle school. We are seeking volunteers to help with landscaping, pressure washing, campus clean up projects, etc. on Saturday, November 2nd from 9am-1pm.

We have reached out to some of our corporate partners as well as some other community businesses, like Lowe’s, that might be interested in helping one of our local schools with some much needed work. We would love to make an impact for these students.
