About us: TAF@Saghalie is a unique 6th-12th grade public school in Federal Way, Washington, where we prepare our students for postsecondary success through STEM-centered project-based learning.

This volunteer opportunity would work with our student leadership club the Student Ambassadors. Student Ambassadors at TAF@Saghalie are 6th-12th grade students looking to gain leadership and public speaking skills by giving school tours to community partners, participating in workshops, and learning from guest speakers. We would be delighted to be visited by 3-4 Microsoft employees who can share about their journey in becoming a leader, what leadership at Microsoft looks like for them, and teach us more about how to gain confidence in public speaking, storytelling, etc.

This could look like a panel, Q&A session, workshop you facilitate, etc. Focuses are:
• Who are you? What led you to working at Microsoft?
• What kind of leadership skills did you need to gain to get where you are at Microsoft?
• What does a good leader look like to you?
• What can middle school and high school students do now to set them up for success as leaders in the future?
• How/why is public speaking an important part of your job?
• How can students improve their public speaking skills?
• The importance of personal storytelling in public speaking.

We have preference for this opportunity to be held Oct 10th during the students' free period which ranges for all grades between 10:45am and 1pm. This opportunity ideally would be held in person, as to be most engaging, but could potentially be held virtually. Volunteers could stay the full two hours or there could be different speakers in two shifts of one hour each.

Thank you for empowering our future leaders!

This project would hopefully be held in conjuction with the TAF@Saghalie College and Career Fair, held annually for all our students, grades 6-12. The Fair is an essential part of our school’s mission to prepare our students, many of whom are first-generation college-bound students and 78% of whom are students of color, for post-secondary success. The date is tentatively set for October 12th.

AND YOU can help!

Share your Microsoft Story with 6th-12th grade students in Federal Way, WA, at TAF@Saghalie. We need 6-10 volunteers to sit in during class time, where a moderator will ask you questions about your career journey, educational background, and experience at Microsoft. Inspire the next generation to consider careers in STEM!

Preference for this opportunity is in person for an all day commitment of 8-2pm, but we would also accept smaller shifts of 1 hour with rotating professionals (anticipating at least 2 professionals per classroom).
