Youth About Business teaches business to high school students through hosting a series of business competitions. For a week, students will work in teams of 4-5 and assume the roles of the Executive Management of a public company to perform a M&A transaction. Many students have very limited exposure to the business world, so students appreciate the team advisors for helping them understand these very complex cases. Each team advisor will cover a specific part of the transaction process to help demystify business and prepare students for their transactions.
The camp is both an educational opportunity and a competition for the students. Advisors act as both “paid” consultant and teachers during their experience. You should approach your role as advisor as if you are advising a client on the pros and cons of a deal.
The research session volunteers will help a team of 4-5 high school students understand how to conduct research on a public company. In addition to helping students with their research, volunteers will walk students through a SWOT analysis and other tools to frame their company exploration. (Session prep materials provided)
Examples of research topics to explore:
• What is the primary business? In what industry would you classify the business?
• What is the size of the company? (by sales, by employees, by market cap)
• Who are the largest competitors?
• How to create a SWOT Analysis and other frameworks
At the end of the session, students should be able to speak to the basics of their company. They will also have a focused list of items to research on their own.

The Fedora Open is the major fundraiser for The Michael “Mickey” Soroka Charitable Foundation. It is held in the summer in advance of the major project requests that occur in the fall generated by the teachers and staff of the K-12 Campbell City Schools. This fundraiser generates funds that provide educational assistance and contribute to academic programs which inspire and guide students of Campbell City Schools. The Mickey Soroka Foundation does not have any paid staff, so all net fundraising is used for the benefit of students.Available Shifts

Hello,I am a parent helping with Linn-Mar Post Prom this year, specifically handling donations and prizes. Our event will be held on May 13-14 at ImOn Ice in Cedar Rapids. The goal of Linn-Mar Post Prom is to keep students safe on prom night. We do this by providing a supervised, safe, alcohol and drug free after prom event. Linn-Mar Post Prom is FREE for students to attend, whether or not they attend prom, giving students another much-needed social option without the expense and expectations of prom. Some area schools charge students to attend their post prom; however, we believe it is best to keep this event free to students to encourage attendance and so that there are no financial barriers for students to attend.
Students enjoy games, food, a hypnotist, and prizes. Grand prizes are given out in the early morning and students must be present to win, which ensures that student's remain at post prom, after which they return home safely. Parent and business donations cover the many expenses of this event: the venue, food, prizes, and security to name a few.
In the past, Kohl’s employee volunteers have helped with set up. The prize set up is quite time consuming. At the Ice Arena, this involves hauling prizes upstairs (there is an elevator), creating prize tags, arranging prizes on long tables, and attaching tags to the appropriate prizes. In addition, this may require creating raffle prize grab bags or other freebie bags for the event.
I am flexible about when volunteers would like to help and can start any time between 4 and 7 pm. I would just need to know how many volunteers and when they would be coming so that I can plan accordingly.
We also need volunteers during the event, with most shifts 10:30 pm – 2 am. If there are any employee night owls, we’d love to have you! We have a difficult time finding parents willing or able to stay up that late.
Thank you!
Cathy Fitzsimmons
