Travelnitch began with a simple dream of inspiring kids [to travel] through books, games, and crafts. One way we accomplish this is with Books Beyond Borders (https://travelnitch.org/books-beyond-borders/)—a curated collection of books encouraging kids to travel the world from home.

As a member of the American Booksellers Association, we market a wide variety of titles for big and little explorers, but we LOVE spotlighting our favorites, like this one: https://travelnitch.org/sumo-joe/

We are currently seeking volunteers who love to read—everything from children's board books to young adult fiction—and write. You should also share our affinity for travel. As a children's book reviewer, your primary role would be reading and recommending new titles for parents through entertaining & informative blog posts. We have plenty to share with you (as e-books), or you can recommend your own personal favorites!

Travelnitch is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. As such, we rely on volunteers to help further our mission by connecting families through thoughtful content and engaging kids through informative, online programming. We'd love your support—reach out today!

Teams of high school students from Maine will compete in this fast-paced virtual competition providing fun opportunities to test their knowledge and understanding of biology, chemistry, earth and space science, physics, energy, and math, plus collaborate on all of their answers.

We seek volunteer moderator-timekeepers, question judge-chatbox scorers, and recognizer-scorekeepers:

Moderator-Timekeepers Carefully read aloud all 18 questions and answer choices in their entirety for the students each round for several hours, plus keep track of time it takes for students to raise their hands and begin answering questions. Strong STEM background required. Prior competition experience as a competitor and/or official is strongly recommended since this person runs the competition zoom meeting.

Question Judge-Chatbox Scorers Follow along to ensure that moderator reads questions accurately, plus enter scores and running totals in the zoom chatbox. STEM background required. Prior NSB/comparable quiz bowl experience desired but not required.

Recognizer-Scorekeepers Call on the first student who raises their hand to answer a question once all answer choices have been read aloud by the moderator, plus enter scores for each question pair and submit online. Requires attentiveness, great listening skills, and focus on game play/details.

A positive and supportive attitude and attention to detail are very important for all roles.

STEM background needed for moderator-timekeepers & question judge-chatbox scorers.

No STEM background required for recognizer-scorekeepers.

In order to officiate, you must also commit to participating in a 1-hour zoom training-practice session on either
Wednesday 2/8, 2-3pm ET, or
Saturday 2/25, 4-5pm ET, or
Monday 2/27, 6:30-7:30pm or 8-9pm ET

There are two education project you will participate.

The first proyect, "Growing and learning" is a project that, since 2007, improves the educational and psychosocial development of children and adolescents from the village of Santo Tomás, on the suburbs of Iquitos, through school reinforcement, leisure activities and free time. Boys and girls come to the center daily and the number of participants has increased exponentially year after year.

The second project is being carried out at the riverside peasant communities, which are found along the banks of the rivers that come together to give birth to the Amazon river. These communities are isolated and have enormous difficulties in accessing the public education.
A Basic Education program is launched for people over 15 years old that guarantees the basic educational level in reading comprehension and expression and in calculation . At the same time, mediation is carried out with the Loreto Regional Education Office, the APFA (father-mother associations) of the riverside residents and the teachers of the primary education centers present in each population, contributing to an improvement in children's school achievement and promoting inter-institutional relations (local community, regional governments, associations...).
