JA In A Day is a suite of programs delivered in grades Kindergarten through 8th. Volunteers teach grade-specific Junior Achievement curriculum which exposes the students to aspects of Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship and Work/Career Readiness through fun and engaging games and examples. This is a 4-5 hour volunteer commitment; materials provided and prep required.

Operating Dates: May 28 – July 2 Hours: 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM

Our program is dedicated to serving and uplifting K-5 through 8th grade students from the Pearl, Rankin County, and Metro Jackson school districts. We focus on students identified by their schools as reading below grade level, those who have failed, or are one or more grades behind.

We prioritize students facing significant challenges, including those living below the poverty line, residing in public or government housing, growing up in single-parent households, or belonging to historically underserved minority groups, such as African-American and Hispanic/Latino American communities, with special attention to male students.

Our aim is clear: to empower deserving students across the Greater Jackson Metro area by equipping them with the critical skill of reading comprehension while fostering positive character and conduct development. These foundational elements are essential for unlocking their full life-skill potential and building a pathway to lasting success.

By fostering better-educated, well-equipped, and highly skilled students, we are building a brighter future—better families, stronger schools, more capable workers and workplaces, and a new generation of effective public servants. Together, we are shaping a better, more culturally progressive Mississippi and a stronger United States.

Opportunity Details

GYIS is an event held for YIS students as the culmination of their work during the year. At the GYIS they compete in a stock pitch competition, a business case study competition, financial games, attend workshops and network. It is the highlight of the year and gives students a chance to build their financial and investing knowledge and interact with professionals in the field.
