https://volunteer.nfte.com/opportunity/a2IUr0000001LYf/2024-nfte-west-youth-entrepreneurship-challenge-quarterfinal-round-virtual#The culminating event of every NFTE program is the Regional Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge. You are invited to serve as a judge for this virtual business pitch competition event as a member of the NFTE entrepreneurial community. We are looking for various members of the NFTE volunteer community to review business plans submitted by NFTE students from across the West region. NFTE judging panels are composed of a mix of investors and industry experts, including venture capitalists, angel investors, investment bankers, seasoned entrepreneurs, and business professionals of all kinds. We seek a good balance of volunteers that mirror and model the demographic diversity of our young entrepreneurs.
Students have submitted their Executive Summaries, their 7-minute business pitch video, and their full business plan slide deck. It’s now up to YOU to evaluate, provide written feedback, and choose the top students to move to the next round. Quarter-finalist judges will be selecting the top students to move ahead. This is an asynchronous opportunity that allows you to judge the submissions during a window within a given timeframe that works best for your schedule.
As a judge, you will have the important role of determining which student business offers the most innovative solution to a real-world problem and demonstrates a strong entrepreneurial mindset. You will also have the opportunity to provide constructive feedback to the student businesses on their business ideas via our judging platform, Reviewr.
The quarter-final round will take place virtually (asynchronous).
The top businesses will move to the final round, taking place in San Francisco on May 23rd and in LA on June 1st. The top West businesses will advance to the National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge in October 2024 to compete in nationals for a grand prize award for their business!
**Judging Window: Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 9:00 AM PST to Monday, May 13, 2024 at 11:59 PM PST.

In addition, if you are a judge for the semifinals round, you cannot serve as a judge for the quarterfinals round in the same sub-regional category, and vice versa.
Your Role
As a judge, you'll volunteer using our online business plan competition platform called Reviewr. You will be assigned 3-5 student business plans to review (pitch decks, executive summaries, and pitch videos) and determine which offer the most innovative solution to a real-world problem and demonstrates a student’s strong entrepreneurial mindset. Using our rubric form which we will provide, you will score each presentation and also provide constructive feedback for students on their business plans and presentation skills.
**Time commitment: 2-3 hours, but self-paced, virtual, remote, and through the judging window listed above, including orientation and platform training.
Tech requirements: Computer and strong internet connection
How to prepare: NFTE staff will provide you with a guide for the Reviewr platform and judge orientation which includes review of student business pitch templates and scoring rubric

Objectives: To create a 6-month comprehensive program for ten exceptional high school basketball players. We plan on providing full-scale training in basketball and leadership skills, financial literacy, and time management. This program expects to give this team of 10 student-athletes the experience of a lifetime playing in tournaments on the Puma and Marquee Hoops Basketball circuits, traveling to Brazil for a 4-day tournament, providing them with eight workouts a week with local strength and basketball skill trainers. In addition, beyond basketball, we expect to supply the young leaders with weekend leadership, financial literacy, and time management seminars from March to August. The main objective of this project is to have 30% of the team obtain a scholarship offer to play college basketball during this spring/summer season. In addition, the team’s goal is to have a 3.3 Cumulative GPA in school and for each team member to start their own savings account by the end of the season, through a partnership with a local credit union and bank.Numbers served: This project will serve ten kids and their families for a maximum of 20-25 people. We aim to provide this opportunity for all families and children involved at no additional cost.
Communities Served: York City School District, York Suburban School District, Central York School District, Dallastown School District, Red Lion School District, Wilson West Lawn School District, Hershey School District
Project existence: While the See More Good Foundation has existed for three years, the See More Good Academy Program is entirely new.
The problem: Right now, in York, Pennsylvania, there is a massive resource gap preventing more significant numbers of youth basketball players in the area from being recognized by college coaches for their talents. The two biggest problems are the need for additional finances and barriers to transportation. Firstly, York-area families are generally unable to pay for the top-flight resources that are necessary for their kids to reach their full athletic potential. These inaccessible resources include specialized strength and conditioning training, nutritious meals, mental health resources, and even focused basketball training. Furthermore, should a family have the ability to access top-flight resources, there is an additional hurdle brought about by a vast lack of transportation to consistently connect these student-athletes with the proper resources. These issues are not solely endemic to the city of York but also to the county as a whole. This program explicitly features student-athletes who can be the first children in their families to attend and graduate college. Coming from low-income, blue-collar families, all these children need is consistent access to resources and a community of similarly focused individuals. These children will serve as a light for the community to follow. As they inevitably succeed due to their hard work in all aspects of life, they will serve as role models within the greater community. By illuminating what is possible through complete commitment and work ethic, the next generation of athletes will follow these new leaders, and the gap will be further closed as the program scales to include more teams and ages of children in the future. This funding will help with everything from gym space to classroom space to subsidizing gas money for carpooling parents in need. Anything helps!
Explanation of the Academy and Partnerships:
To make a long story short, I will be coaching 16u AAU basketball with a unique opportunity for each kid involved to transcend what has been done before in our area. With the help of Coach Jalen Archer and his program, The Kingdom Select, and Coach Trevor Orr, of Sideline Cancer, I will create the See More Good Foundation Academy Program for ten exceptional players in the classes of 2026 & 2027. Here is what you need to understand:
Through our partnership with The Kingdom Select AAU- the boys will play in 5 guaranteed tournaments on the Puma NXTPRO circuit, which is brand new this year. In addition, our partnership with The Kingdom Select will give the boys access to two-weekend retreats at the Black Rock Camp Ground in Lancaster County and provide us with access to practice on Saturdays and Sundays at Lancaster Bible College. The way that the NXTPRO circuit works you must have a certain winning percentage at each tournament to qualify for the final tournament- The NXT Finals in Lincoln/Omaha, Nebraska, July 26-28th. These dates of the 5 NXTPRO tournaments are guaranteed.

In addition, the boys will play four Live Period Events on the Made Hoops Circuit through our partnership with Coach Trev Orr and Sideline Cancer Playmakers. Our collaboration with Sideline Cancer is for the great cause of advocating for cancer patients worldwide, and #webelieve that this will be even more great exposure for the boys. Coach Trev’s expertise in scouting and connections in the AAU world will help our kids. THERE WILL BE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE KIDS TO PLAY IN A 4-DAY TOURNAMENT IN Brazil IN LATE JUNE—details to follow. Passports are needed. I may not be able to cover that experience fully. Last year, I went to Denmark with one student-athlete, and it was a fantastic experience. Basketball aside, the Academy will use the time spent together to pour into the young men as LEADERS in society. We will do activities outside of basketball, such as bible study, financial literacy seminars, job site tours, guest speaker events, and more to give the kids repeated opportunities to find who they are outside of basketball. On top of that, we have partnered with local college students who will offer free tutoring to the boys during the Friday study halls. With the proper buy-in, this program will be very close to what the boys might experience at a Power 5 school. This is an earnest commitment and endeavor. The kids will play at the highest level of competition for their age, and some will be playing up. We are selecting only ten children because we believe that they can handle it. Our program is not something for anyone scared or fearful of failure.
Mondays & Wednesdays (Vertimax and Shooting Reps Focus)
Mondays (6-7:30) - Vertimax Training Sessions (3375 Druck Valley Road, York, PA) followed by Shooting Workouts led by Coaches Kyree Generette, Aidan Littleton, and Jaime Orr at Redemption Ministries (2270 Susquehanna Trail, York, Pa). The shooting workouts are deliberately crafted from my days as a college basketball player and will end at 9:30 pm. If this option is unavailable, we will be in the gym late at night. We want to put more time into development than anyone else in the country.
Tuesdays & Thursdays (Strength and Conditioning, Detailed Skills Training Focus)
(5:30-6:30 lift at Team Beast Mode Gym (1148 Elizabeth Avenue, Lancaster, Pennsylvania)) followed by a 7-9 pm Skill Workout with Coach Jalen Archer at Lancaster Bible College (901 Eden Road Lancaster, PA)
Friday Evening Mandatory Team Study Hall (2525 Eastern Boulevard, York, PA) 6-9 PM
Saturday 8-10 AM led by myself or a guest trainer like Keith Williams at Lancaster Bible College (MANDATORY)
Saturday 3-5 PM Practice led by myself at Lancaster Bible College (MANDATORY)
Sunday 8-11 AM at Lancaster Bible College (MANDATORY)
The locations and times for weekend practices may change based on LBC gym availability. We are working on getting access to Donegal School District Gyms, York Country Day School, York County School of Technology, Franklin & Marshall College, and St. Matthew’s Church in York.
Think about what is wrong with most AAU teams. They don’t practice enough. They don’t have roster continuity. The kids don’t share the ball. The kids don’t know each other. Now think about what is wrong with most School Ball teams. They are missing just one or two pieces to make them strong, but they cannot handpick who is in their district. They play very slowly to win games rather than develop individual skill sets. They teach a system to win, but not necessarily for playing in college. BUT. What if there was a way to combine the benefits of both? What if there was a way to have a team that practiced every day, loved one another, understood one another, and built a strong rapport like a school ball team does, with the talent level, fast pace, and exposure of AAU? SMG ACADEMY PROGRAM embodies that mindset. We need ten kids who want something like this and are more willing to do this than anything else. Beyond those directly involved, I firmly believe that this program will improve the physical, mental, and social well-being of York, PA, residents by creating young men who utilize the platform of being star basketball players to inspire the next generation to do even more.

FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a program for Grades 9-12.The FIRST Robotics Competition gives high school students and their adult mentors the opportunity to work and create together to solve a common problem. Under strict rules, limited resources, and an intense six-week time limit, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. They celebrate their hard work and meet other teams while competing for a spot at the FIRST Robotics Competition Ontario Provincial Championships! It’s a fun way to cap off their season!
As a judge, you will work in small groups to select team award recipients through interaction with teams, review documentation regarding team background information to familiarize judges with teams, and serve as role models for the students.
