Are you looking for a way to spend time outside in nature while contributing to a worthy cause? Then this micro-volunteering opportunity is perfect for you!

EcoSpark is an environmental charity connecting people to their local natural environment through education, monitoring and stewardship. We believe that citizen science is a powerful tool for spreading awareness and mobilizing local data collection. By collecting biodiversity observations through iNaturalist, you can learn more about the local species living around you, and help scientists working to study and protect them.

Safely explore nature from wherever you are by finding wild species close to home. Whether this means taking a walk through your local park, or watching birds from your window, you can make observations from wherever you experience nature.

1. Download iNaturalist and make an account (users must be 13 years or older to make an account).
2. Join EcoSpark’s iNaturalist project.
3. Go outside and safely observe a wild plant or animal.
4. Take a clear picture or record a sound of what you find. Be sure to note the location.
5. Upload your observation to iNaturalist. If you know the species, great! If not, put your best guess (if you know it’s a ‘plant’ for example, but aren't sure what kind, just put ‘plant’).
6. Congratulations! You have just contributed valuable data to science. Feel free to continue to make observations, as each observation helps provide a more complete picture for ecologists.

Be aware of human and wildlife safety at all times and explore natural areas responsibly with ethical wildlife photography. To support biodiversity research focus on: wild insects, birds, weeds, and other wild plants, animals and fungi (rather than cultivated species like garden flowers).

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO REMOVE INVASIVE PLANTS AND RESTORE LOWRY SPRING BASIN AT LOWRY PARK
Join Ecosphere Restoration Institute, ZooTampa at Lowry Park, City of Tampa Parks & Recreation, and Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful (KTTB) on Saturday, February 17 from 8:30AM-11AM, for a morning volunteer event to finish removing the invasive plants that have taken over the Lowry Spring Basin at Lowry Park. This work will continue where we left off at our last event, allowing us to finish removing invasive plants around the Spring and along Hamilton Creek, which flows into the Hillsborough River. Families, individuals 14 years and up, clubs, and organizations are invited to help restore the well-loved site.

We expect the work to be completed quicker than before because we are almost finished! We will also be cleaning up any trash that has accumulated along the shoreline of the Hillsborough River. Volunteers should wear attire suitable for outdoor work such as hats, long pants, and sturdy closed-toed shoes. Gloves and safety glasses will be available, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own. Sunscreen and insect repellent are recommended. Water will be available but please make sure to bring your own water bottle. Tools will be provided. We will have pros onsite to operate chain saws for safety purposes. *Due to the presence of power tools, the minimum age is 14.
Parking is available at Lowry Park. From Sligh Ave, turn north on North Blvd and turn right at the next lot past (north of) boat ramp parking. Then walk north to the Spring (turn left at the River). OR Turn onto the second lot north of the boat ramp and walk south to the Spring (turn right at the River). You should see Ecosphere's set up and may hear the sound of chainsaws.

We would love to have you join us! *To sign up for the event visit:

Spring clean up in North Hill!
Keep Akron Beautiful provides beautiful plants for the community, but it is up to volunteers to clean up the neighborhood and ready the gardens for planting.
This project will be held on Earth Day, April 22, 2024. We will convene at 9:00am at People's Park (760 Elma St. Akron) and then move in groups to clean up several areas in the neighborhood. No skill is necessary, but gloves are encouraged. Volunteers will clear dead foliage, plant spring bulbs, and clear debris and trash that may have accumulated during the winter at People's Park, Temple Square, the Howard Street Heritage Courtyard, and several planter boxes in the neighborhood. Up to 20 volunteers are needed for 2-3 hours

We run team corporate volunteering days for up to 50 people in community green spaces needing urgent support. We have sites all over Greater London.

The best way to get a feel of what we offer is to watch our testimonial video from MUJI's day with us earlier this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ineTjSXQoNQ

In short we manage the entire day from registration, the gardening itself, to the wrap up:

- Organising - We take the headache out of registering your colleagues with our forms
-Timings - Days last from 9.30 am to 4 pm (max), incl. 1-hour lunch break.
-Health & Safety - we give a H&S briefing, provide all gardening tools and gloves on the day. Our team of Gardening Team Leaders are also First Aid trained.
-A fun, educational, and productive gardening day. We love how much we always get done and we make sure we have a good time doing it.
-Expect "hands-on"! Practical activities we might be doing together including pruning, digging, planting flowers, shrubs and trees, creating bug hotels and wildlife habitats, improving soils, turning compost, litter picking and sowing seeds.
-Photos- we will provide you with team and individual shots to remember our day together.
-'Golden Gloves' Awards ceremony at the end of your session gives us a chance to say thank you.
-Marketing & CSR wrap up - we provide photos, infographics, and concise reports for your CSR / ESG reporting, annual wrap up, and social media. We occasionally get a 'Feel Good' press story in - and we'd love to involve you in these also.

Fee for the day:

We charge £990 for up to 12 people joining us for a full day (9.30am - 4.30am). This covers our organising time, tools, gardener's fees, plants, etc.

If you would like to stay for a party with the residents we ask you to bring the cakes and drinks for yourself on the day.

All profits are channelled back into looking after the sites and communities we support.

We are sending volunteers AS A PRIORITY to Sheltered Housing blocks across London. Read below what an example of such a day might look like:

Lucy Brown House Sheltered Housing.
Address: 27 Park St, London SE1 9EG.
10 minutes’ walk from Blackfriars or London Bridge. Right behind Borough market.

Capacity
We have enough room (and to-do!) for 24 individuals to volunteer for a full day. We always include a party with the residents after the day of gardening.

Suggested Timings (though we can be flexible)

9.15am arrival for 9.30am start.
9.30am-12.30 Gardening (with tea break)
12.30-1.30pm Lunch break - borough market is 3 minutes walk away. We don't provide lunch, but you can eat it and play a game of pool at our site. Most teams go to Franco Manco together, 5 mins away.
1.30pm - 4.30pm Gardening afternoon session with tea break
4.30pm - 6.30pm Optional party with residents (tea and cake and whatever else you wish to eat and drink!)
