Requires commitment to attend meetings, work to support United Way and our goals and projects. Meet once a month on the second Thursday of each month at the United Way office in Rainier, OR 97048. Time: 6:00 PM length of meetings usually 1.5 hours. Participate in Application review and allocation of funds annually in March. Students 16 years and up are welcome.

As an ambassador of the Humane Society of Skagit Valley, communication and detail are important. Presentation and information are essential to helping our community understand what the Humane Society is all about. This position is direct contact with people and animals. From local events to out of County events, the shelter is actively reaching out, and educating on spay and neuter and responsible pet ownership and everything in between. Extensive knowledge of this animal shelter is important, a confident leader will excel in this position.

The animals have your heart, they need your mind, your ideas and energy.
Each week more than 17,000 potential adopters look for pets on our Humane Society of Skagit Valley’s website. Web Team members maintain the online list of animals available for adoption by uploading digital photos taken of the animals at HSSV. They also write fun, enticing blurbs about each animal to describe the animal's personality and needs.
Volunteers must have good writing skills, computer skills and have a working knowledge of digital photography. They must also practice safe animal handling per HSSV protocols.
Duties include: socializing, visiting, and comforting the animals; posting photos and descriptions animals for adoption on the website according to HSSV policies and procedures; uploading information from home or on a computer at HSSV; and cropping and adjusting pictures for optimal viewing.
Marketing Team members assist in design, developing and distributing photo flyers of animals available for adoption, working with the public at outreach events, accompanying and transporting dogs to off-site adoption events, and various other projects.
This position has some animal contact.

Ages: 18 & older – Approved volunteer application required.
Ages: 17 -14 – Approved volunteer application is required mandatory and a parent/guardian must sign a volunteer waiver.
Ages: 13 & younger – must always have a parent/guardian with them while volunteering at the shelter, the parent/guardian must have approved volunteer application volunteer. Applications and waivers must be filled out for all attending.

WYF is seeking dynamic professional volunteers/mentors to help open the minds of our next generation of leaders. Through our flagship program YIIP, we are preparing students to excel academically, thrive in the workforce, assume productive leadership roles, and gain and maintain economic empowerment in this increasingly global society. Without strong literacy skills in reading and writing, students are unable to comprehend and learn information, record and apply knowledge, and function appropriately as contributing members of our global society. Moreover, without strong literacy skills that equip them to win in life against all odds, our youth -- especially underserved minorities -- will continue to experience academic underperformance that widens the racial achievement gap in education, economic disadvantage, homelessness, growing incarceration rates, growing teen pregnancy rates, growing gang affiliation rates, growing crime and drug addiction rates, growing unemployment and underemployment rates, and other poverty- and literacy-related community ills as cited in the Harris County Community Plan and other sources.
The Literacy component of YIIP’s Literacy and STEAM program underpins every step of the program. The program will capitalize on the intriguing nature of science and entrepreneurship to provide problem-based learning tools that enable YIIP to not only teach STEAM and entrepreneurship skills but also reading, writing, and public-speaking skills.

The STEAM component provides the fun, engaging project-based learning environment in which YIIP will motivate students to develop the myriad skills outlined above. Our projects will draw on various STEAM fields, including physics, geology, engineering, computer technology, climatology, mathematics, chemistry, graphic design, performing and visual arts, and web design.

The project goals are YIIP’s Literacy and STEAM Program has the following five goals:

1. Strengthen students’ literacy skills in an effort to enhance their educational and career readiness.

2. Improve students’ literacy and STEAM skills through the use of fun, engaging project-based learning programs specifically designed with best practices and evidence-based instructional strategies in mind.

3. Expose underserved middle and high school students to science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) in an effort to provide students with resources to design their own futures in a STEAM career.

4. Cultivate an additional means of fulfilling YIIP’s overall goal, which is to create self-sufficient entrepreneurs with the business acumen to produce/provide innovative affordable products/services in quantities sufficient to lift themselves and their families

5. Aid society in achieving a diverse and dynamic global workforce whereby enhances the pipeline of skilled workers in STEAM professions.

Story Writing:
Well-written and compelling copy for marketing or communication materials. Examples include a brochure, one-pager/fact sheet, or fundraising/ promotional material. Messaging that is consistent with brand identity, public relations strategy and communications objectives.

Data Research:
Source, compile, interpret and reconcile key agency financial, operational and statistical data, and generate a variety of value-added reports for SJW Board, Leadership and staff.

Technology:
Assistance with setting up a Google Analytics account and tracking codes for the Organization’s various web assets (e.g. mobile apps, website, blog, social media).Training on how to track performance, set up reports and analyze the data collected online. Set of guidelines for data collection, interpretation and analysis.

Print Material Design:
Designs for a pre-determined number of marketing or communications materials (examples: one-pager/fact sheets, fundraising collateral, event invitations, and pamphlets). Templates with accurate, print-ready specifications.

Annual Report Writing:
Clear and effective copy for an annual report that illustrates the Organization’s successes and plans for growth. Copy may include: programs descriptions, allocation of funds and recognition of donors and volunteers.

Volunteers enjoy a flexible work schedule, driven by project needs. High level volunteer roles that directly supports SJW Leadership in a vibrant, fast-paced, and visionary atmosphere.

Annually the Katherine and Everett Robinson Foundation hosts Katherine’s Breakfast For Survivors, a free breakfast honoring breast cancer survivors. The annual event has been a significant opportunity for survivors to come together for support, education and to receive some well deserved pampering. Immediately after the breakfast, we host our annual fashion show featuring music from Houston’s DJ Supastar and couture fashions by established designer.

We are looking for volunteers to join our pre-event planning committee. The ideal candidate has event planning, project management, photography, videograpy or administrative experience. Volunteers are also welcomed to join us onsite the day of the event.
