About This Cause

Community Clearinghouse Community Clearinghouse (CCH) is a year-round resource center of free household goods, furniture, clothing and other basic items that people need but often cannot afford. Our organization has administered a version of the CCH for several decades, and it operates from a 9,700 square-foot warehouse at our Kalihi property. The program has been a pillar of the community and continues to reliably help hundreds of households each year. The CCH’s inventory is comprised of donations from the community and high-need items purchased through grants. The CCH strategy restores confidence for the entire household by addressing a variety of essential needs and providing a safety net for low and below low-income households. Repurposing items that are still in good condition contribute to a better environment while immediately filling a family's needs. Ready to Learn Ready to Learn (RTL) provides school supplies to school-aged children to prepare them for the new school year, and it continues replenishing their supplies throughout the year when inventory is available. Our objective is to ensure Hawaii's youth have the necessary tools to be successful in the classroom despite their family's financial challenges. Adopt A Family Adopt A Family (AAF) is a seasonal program that aims to alleviate financial strain and emotional distress during the holidays by connecting donors with families in need, providing families with essential resources and heartfelt gifts during an especially challenging time of year. The purpose is to create opportunities for vulnerable families to experience holiday festivities that inspire them to continue their path toward a better tomorrow. Emergency Assistance Program Emergency Assistance Program (EAP) provides emergency financial assistance to individuals and households who are in danger of becoming homeless due to past-due rent or utilities, or who are trying to transition out of homelessness into more stable housing and need assistance with rental and utility deposits. Clients receive basic financial literacy education and resources to help them improve their financial situations in the future. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach SNAP Outreach helps at-risk, vulnerable and low-income households to access SNAP benefits (formerly known as Food Stamps). Activities include helping households with filling out, submitting, and following up on applications. The program also provides interpretive assistance and helps recipients maintain benefits, ensuring households maximize their use of benefits. Bilingual Access Line (BAL) Bilingual Access Line provides the community with skilled and experienced interpreters in more than 250 languages. It provides interpretation on the phone, through video remote, in person and written to State and Federal government offices; medical, legal and other industries with specialized terminology; and community-based and public-serving entities. Representative Payee (Rep Payee) The Social Security Administration offers beneficiaries who are incapable of managing their Social Security Income (SSI or SSDI) the option to have a qualifying organization manage their benefits. Our Representative Payee program has been a qualified entity for over 20 years, serving vulnerable individuals who have health issues that make it challenging to manage their funds.
