About This Cause

Founded in 1907, the Organization of American Historians (OAH) is the largest organization dedicated to the teaching and study of American history, and publishes the Journal of American History, a journal of record in the field. The OAH represents nearly 5,500 member historians, who are college and university professors, pre-collegiate teachers, archivists, museum curators, public historians, students, and professional historians working in a variety of institutional settings including national parks and historical societies. OAH historians are uniquely equipped to provide insight to the present through their deep and nuanced understanding of the past, and the OAH encourages wide discussions of historical questions with broad public audiences.
