Mission Statement

Covenant House Florida (CHF) is dedicated to serving all God’s children, with absolute respect and unconditional love, to help youth experiencing homelessness, and to protect and safeguard all youth in need.

About This Cause

Youth arrive at Covenant House Florida (CHF) with diverse lived experiences that reflect the need for an array of services that address their immediate needs, experienced traumas, and hope for a better future. CHF guides young people on a path to independence while focusing on eliminating barriers that have led them to homelessness. The vulnerabilities that result from experiencing homelessness contribute to a perpetuating cycle of crisis and increase the risk of engagement in health-risk behaviors. Oftentimes, CHF youth have varied traumatic experiences including domestic violence, trafficking, limited familial support, substance abuse, mental illness, and physical and sexual abuse and seek the opportunity to better their futures. Limited education, low literacy levels, limited employment experience, and unaddressed mental illnesses attribute to poor functionality and survival mode upon program entry. Youth’s limited opportunities and lack of resources make it difficult to imagine a life of positive progression. CHF works with our young people to overcome their traumas and focus on making positive and impactful decisions to change the trajectory of their futures. Covenant House Florida serves youth experiencing homelessness through its two sites in Orlando and in Fort Lauderdale. Throughout the past year, 94% of youth served by the Orlando site came from within Orange County, and 76% of youth served at the Fort Lauderdale site came from within Broward County. Those seeking services that are not from Orange or Broward Counties typically derive from neighboring Florida counties. CHF operates a shelter, known as our Safe Haven, in Fort Lauderdale. In addition to providing food and shelter at the Safe Haven, we provide an array of in-house programs and services to assist youth in gaining self-sufficiency and financial independence to ultimately exit homelessness. On-site programs include individual and group counseling, case management, independent living, career and education navigation, parenting education and support, medical health services, transitional living and rapid rehousing programs. By engaging in CHF’s programs and services, youth gain valuable guidance, experience, and skills to aid them on their path to independence. In Orlando, CHF provides a Community Resource Center where young people can drop in when they are in need of food, clothing, phone, internet, storage, baby supplies, case management services, connection to community resources and a safe place to relax and escape the Florida weather. The Community Resource Center also provides on-site Independent Living course modules and Career and Education Navigation classes for youth on a weekly basis. In addition to regularly scheduled classes, CHF hosts various events for youth experiencing homelessness. Covenant House Florida Orlando continues to provide outreach services and transitional housing for youth, 18-24 years old, in Central Florida as well.
