Mission Statement
Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) is an interdenominational human service non-profit committed to helping people in need in Appalachia. Our mission is Building Hope, Transforming Lives, and Sharing Christ's Love through Service in Appalachia. To do this, we provide physical, spiritual, and emotional support through a wide variety of programs and services, including food and emergency assistance, early childhood education, after-school programming, housing repair, counseling support for domestic violence shelters, family counseling, summer camps, nonprofit resourcing, elderly services, and care for the disabled. Based in Eastern Kentucky, CAP serves over 1 million people annually.
About This Cause
Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) was founded in 1964 by Eastern Kentucky parish priest, Rev. Ralph Beiting, who felt called to minister to the full range of needs in his midst. For 51 years since, CAP has provided food, shelter, clothing, and a range of other vital services to people in need in Appalachia, with its primary target populations being children and low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled.
