Mission Statement
Our mission: to break the cycle of violence and to strengthen families by providing the necessary tools for self-sufficiency through delivery of emergency shelter, transitional housing, education, effective parenting education, and specialized intervention with youth and the elderly. Established in 1977, Family Violence Prevention Services served over 8,000 victims of domestic violence – primarily women and children – in FY15.
About This Cause
FVPS provides a comprehensive range of services that foster long-term stability and freedom from violence. Intervention with children is a priority, in order to heal families and stop the intergenerational cycle of violence. Victims stay in abusive relationships for a number of reasons: fear; lack of awareness of what constitutes abuse; poverty (lack of housing options, lack of transportation, inability to afford legal services); and barriers associated with poor mental and physical health. FVPS addresses all these issues.
