About This Cause
Over the past 12 years, the Humane Society of Central Texas has been immensely proud of the work we've accomplished in partnership with the Waco Animal Shelter. Together, we have saved thousands of animals and contributed to the city's commitment to maintaining its no-kill status. We've connected countless pets with loving families, given vulnerable animals a second chance, and provided unwavering support to the shelter's lifesaving efforts. These achievements have shaped our organization and strengthened our belief in the power of community to make a difference for animals in need. As we look to the future, we are excited to embark on a new journey as a foster-based rescue. While we reflect on the impact we've had within the shelter, our focus now turns to innovative approaches that prevent animals from entering shelters in the first place. Our community diversion programs will provide critical resources to pet owners, allowing them to keep their pets in their homes through services like food pantries, veterinary support, and rehoming assistance. We believe that by addressing the root causes of pet surrender, we can alleviate the strain on shelters and create more sustainable, long-term solutions for animal welfare. As we enter this new phase, we are driven by our vision to build a compassionate, empowered community that values and supports pets and their families. We may no longer manage the shelter, but our commitment to animal welfare is stronger than ever, and we look forward to making an even greater impact through our foster-rescue model and community-focused programs. Together, we can continue to save lives and make Waco a better place for both pets and the people who love them. HSCTX is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
