The Creator Faire is a community-building event to help cultivate and engage student learners in the hands-on exploration of the arts and sciences.It is a free (donations welcome) maker-type event for the entire Petaluma/Sonoma County community. We expect over 600 people to take part in our art or science-centric, hands-on activities, provided and run by River Montessori family and community member volunteers.
Volunteers are needed to help set up tables, tents and supplies on Saturday morning, help facilitate art and or science-type activities throughout the event, for example help create paper rockets, put shrinky dinks in the toast oven, make and play in oobleck, design and sail away cork boats, build with magnetic blocks and so much more, and/or clean up on Saturday later afternoon.
The Creator Faire is an opportunity for our entire community to discover, collaborate, to make (and unmake), to learn and to play!

Prospect Hill Academy Charter School (PHA) is seeking mentors to work with groups of 10th & 11th grade students from the greater Boston community currently enrolled in AP Computer Science and AP Java. All students will be working in teams to design and develop a language independent program over the course of this two-day event. Mentors with CS prowess are needed to problem solve strategies with teams to better develop their programs. The two-day #PHAckathon is generously sponsored by Facebook and will take place at their headquarters in Cambridge, MA.Mentor Requirements:
• Basic coding experience in any language is required to participate as a mentor
• BONUS: Experience participating in or judging a hackathon

The students are assigned a life scenario so they can experience firsthand the real-life challenges of making personal budgeting decisions. After calculating their net monthly income and savings goals, students visit kiosks that represent different budget categories such housing, health insurance, groceries, and utilities. Anyone with real world monthly budgeting experience can become a volunteer. JA Finance Park Volunteers play a key role by helping the students understand the concepts of personal financial planning and career exploration. Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) is a state-based national nonprofit organization dedicated to reaching out to young people at risk of dropping out and assisting in overcoming serious barriers such as poverty, basic skills deficiency, living in foster care, and many others. Since 2007, EmployIndy has managed all Indianapolis JAG programs and now offers programming to 15 different schools throughout the city.Each year, EmployIndy holds the regional Career Development Conference (CDC) for JAG students from all over Marion County. On February 7th, 2019, JAG students will compete in a variety of competitions to demonstrate their employability skills, understanding of the workforce, and professionalism. Students who participate in the CDC will be required to dress in business professional clothing, which is provided to participants through JAG and EmployIndy. For the past nine years, professional clothing was purchased from Kohl’s, spending over $11,000 for student competition outfits. With such a wide variety of affordable professional attire and accessible and inviting atmosphere for youth and young adults getting their start in the workforce, Kohls’ is an ideal partner for the CDC. Volunteer opportunities will be available at each JAG participating high school in Marion County the month before the conference. Volunteers will give a presentation on the best ways to dress and look professional for interviews, internships, jobs, and conferences. Volunteers have the opportunity to present at the JAG high school of their choice (first come, first served) and volunteer hours will be flexible. There will also be two additional volunteer positions to judge the CDC on February 7, 2019.

Serving on the board of Communities of Rooted Brilliance (CRB) is an opportunity to be a champion of community efforts to support educational equity. Based on a framework of social justice, rather than social service, and strengths rather than deficits, we aim to create a model of community-driven systems change that engages all stakeholders (youth, families, communities, schools, service providers, government, etc.) in a coordinated manner to collectively dismantle inequities.Communities of Rooted Brilliance (CRB) promote the self-sufficiency of refugees and immigrants by helping them access services and educational opportunities while preserving traditional customs.
CRB offers safe community spaces for the diverse, multi-ethnic communities from Burma, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Bolivia, Eritrea, and Bhutan living in King County, WA. CRB’s programs are designed to reach across linguistic, religious, and cultural barriers to foster a community that can learn from and grows with one another. Since 2009, CRB has served refugees and immigrants living in South King County, by providing educational opportunities to engage the whole family, from pre-Kindergarten to adulthood. The communities we serve are low-income, traditionally underserved, and from a region where students and families have limited access to educational opportunities to develop confidence and skills for self-sufficiency. We seek to transform refugees to become advocates of our community and to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate humanitarian and social support services to improve the living conditions and quality of life for immigrants and refugees.
We are looking to increase our local representation on our board, as well as seeking to fill board leadership positions.

Purpose:Share your technology skills with our untapped young adults! Our mentors serve as adult role models and provide support and guidance as the youth experience new challenges and unfamiliar social environments. At times they may need someone to help them navigate their career path, advice on education and training, or just a colleague to share goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Meet with your mentee at least once a month
Provide encouragement around furthering their education and accessing additional training opportunities.
Support them in exploring potential career paths and thinking strategically on how to get there
Help to set up informational interviews, provide advice on resumes and interviewing, and help them research and prepare for internships, training programs, and jobs
Report back to staff on participant’s progress.
Maintain confidentiality of all client information.
Qualifications:
Skilled in technology; coding, computer repair, web design.
Experience or interest in working with disadvantaged youth
Must be extremely reliable and able to follow through on commitments.
Strong interpersonal communication skills with people from diverse cultures and life circumstances.
Previous experience working with marginalized youth is appreciated.

Girls Inc. of Santa Fe will be hosting their annual fundraising gala on April 24th, 2020. To support us in achieving our mission to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold, we need volunteers to help us before and during the fundraiser.Our general times of volunteer needs are:
Prep and set-up: 9 am to 12 pm
Fundraiser support and breakdown: 4:30 pm to 10 pm.
