Technology Education & Learning Support (TEALS) pairs industry volunteers with computing teachers in schools to provide support for computing lessons on a regular basis.Founded by Microsoft in the US in 2009, the mission of TEALS is to increase access to high quality computing education for students who are underserved or underrepresented in computing.
BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, is working to establish TEALS in the UK with support from Microsoft Philanthropies and The Hg Foundation.
Volunteers are the backbone of TEALS. They enrich students’ understanding of computing, provide real-world context for learning, and bring to life a range of career possibilities. Volunteers help departments to increase their computing capacity and advance teachers' subject knowledge and capabilities, creating a lasting impact. The support volunteers provide is planned and under the direction of the teacher with each volunteer supporting a class, each week, across a school year.
