Very few people know we’re here! We at the Florida Education Fund (FEF) run two free Florida-wide tech education programs for underserved participants, and we need to enhance our social media (IG) presence so more people will benefit from our work. That means we need massive amounts of good content, and we’re hoping Microsoft volunteers can help us come up with informative and engaging posts about the importance of learning digital/computing skills. #Give2022We need content for two different IG pages:
1. FEF CodeMasters, https://www.instagram.com/fefcodemasters/. CodeMasters teaches underserved students in grades 1 through 12 to code and links them with STEM mentors; prepares school-age coders for industry certification; and trains coding instructors. Kids learn to code by developing games, web sites, and phone apps and by programming robots. We have tons of pictures of students working at their computers and displaying their games, sites, apps and bots. We would like to add the following content:
a. One-liners about why it’s important for kids to learn to code and create with tech
b. Individual labor market statistics on the outlook for programming and developer jobs
c. Different jobs that require coding
d. Brief success stories about underserved people working as computer programmers
e. Different tasks that can be accomplished with code
f. One-liners about how coding is used in non-tech fields (music, medicine, geology, etc.)
g. One-liners about how non-programming skills used by computer programmers help people succeed in all careers
2. FEF Upskill, https://www.instagram.com/fefupskill/. Upskill is our newer, Microsoft-funded program that equips underserved young adults with in-demand tech skills and industry certifications that can lead to careers and entrepreneurship. We have focused mostly on software development, starting first with classes in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and planning to add classes in Python and MySQL. We’ll soon start a data-related track, initially offering courses in Excel and later adding data visualization, etc. We would like to post content that showcases:
a. One-liners about why it’s important for people to attain digital and tech skills
b. Individual labor market statistics on the outlook for tech, software/web developer, and data analytics jobs
c. Salary projections for jobs in tech, software/web development, and data analytics
d. Different jobs that require developer and data analytics skills
e. Brief success stories about underserved people working in tech
f. One-liners about the data management and analysis power of MS Excel.
We would like Microsoft volunteers to write as many of these short IG captions as possible. Our goal is to start posting this new content weekly on both the CodeMasters and Upskill IG pages. #Give2022

We are searching for volunteers to help support the operation of the collaborative Over the Edge: Williamsport event on Friday, Sept. 23, from 3-10 p.m. The event will run in conjunction with UPMC's block party that same evening and is an opportunity to engage in a community event. Over the Edge is a fundraising event between the WASD Education Foundation, River Valley Regional YMCA and YWCA Northcentral PA. Since 2018, the event has generated more than $275,000 to benefit the mission of each of the participating nonprofits. This year, we have moved the event to a Friday evening so that our participants will have the opportunity to "descend with the sun," while also joining in with UPMC to create a fun and exciting atmosphere for families in the Williamsport area.
