The River Cleanup initiative by Sanskriti Youth Foundation is a hands-on environmental volunteer opportunity aimed at restoring the health and sanctity of our rivers, which are rapidly deteriorating due to unchecked pollution, plastic dumping, sewage inflow, and urban encroachment. Our rivers—once worshipped as lifelines—are now burdened with toxic waste that affects biodiversity, public health, and water security for millions of people.

This activity involves mobilizing volunteers to clean riverbanks, remove plastic waste and debris, segregate recyclables, and document the types and volume of pollution found. Our volunteers work closely with local civic bodies, environmentalists, and riverine communities to ensure sustainable waste disposal practices are followed.

But this cleanup is more than just picking up garbage—it's about raising awareness, building community ownership, and encouraging long-term behavioral change. Each cleanup is coupled with educational outreach, where we conduct short sessions on water conservation, river pollution, and the importance of protecting our freshwater ecosystems.

So far, Sanskriti Youth Foundation has cleaned over 12 riverbanks in 12 cities, collecting more than 56,000 kg of waste, and reaching over 12,500 citizens through direct and indirect awareness. With your support, we aim to scale this effort, promote policy dialogue, and restore these vital ecosystems for future generations.

Join us in this urgent mission to protect our rivers—because clean rivers mean a cleaner future.

🌱 Restore Nature. Strengthen Team Bonds. Make A Real Difference. 🌿

Join Greater Sydney Landcare for a hands-on day of environmental volunteering that gets your team out of the office and into the bush. Trade screens and spreadsheets for gardening gloves and tools as you spend a rewarding day outdoors, helping restore and protect Sydney’s natural landscapes.

This is more than just a team day out — it’s a chance to:

✔️ Give back to the environment in a meaningful way

✔️ Re-energise through fresh air, movement, and nature

✔️ Reconnect with colleagues through shared purpose and face-to-face connection

✔️ Experience the impact your actions have on real ecosystems and wildlife

Led by our friendly and experienced bush regeneration team, your group will dive into satisfying, purposeful work — typically removing invasive weeds to help native plants thrive. The results are tangible and immediate: clearing the way for vibrant bushland to regenerate and for wildlife to return.

You may also have the opportunity to:

🌱 Plant native trees and shrubs through our Creating Canopies project — helping create wildlife habitat and cooling green spaces in urban areas

💧 Test water quality in local creeks through Streamwatch — contributing to real-time pollution tracking and vital ecological research

These experiences create long-lasting memories and real-world impact — both for Greater Sydney's environment and your team.

Spending time in nature is proven to reduce stress, boost mood and focus, enhance team cohesion, and improve overall wellbeing. By volunteering with Greater Sydney Landcare, your team walks away not only with muddy boots and smiling faces, but with a genuine sense of contribution and connection.

Please note: This is a paid corporate volunteering experience, which helps cover site preparation, tools, insurance, staff time, catering, and ongoing environmental care.

🕘 Timing
Events typically run from 9 am to 2 pm, and include a morning tea of fresh fruits and a BBQ lunch. The timing can be flexible to suit your needs.

📍 Location
Corporate teams can help restore bushland in parks & reserves across Greater Sydney. Volunteering locations vary depending on site availability and need for works.

Sites we've worked on with corporate teams from Microsoft, Atlassian, Sony and more include Boronia Park North in Hunter's Hill, Nurragingy Reserve in Doonside (Blacktown LGA), Sir Joseph Banks Park in Botany (Bayside LGA), and many other locations in the Greater Sydney region.
