Make a difference in a child's life by becoming a Literacy Partner! Education Connection is looking for compassionate volunteers to join our mission of empowering young readers across Central Texas. As a Literacy Partner, you will dedicate 30 minutes per week to read with an elementary school student, helping them build confidence, improve literacy skills, and discover the joy of reading.Volunteer Role and Responsibilities:
Weekly Reading Sessions: Spend 30 minutes each week reading with two assigned students of one-on-one reading with each for 15 minutes. These sessions help reinforce reading skills, expand vocabulary, and nurture a positive connection to learning.
Encouragement and Engagement: Offer personalized encouragement and engagement, fostering a supportive and enjoyable reading experience that inspires confidence in young readers.

Become a judge for our InvestWrite National essay competition.SIFMA Foundation’s national essay competition extends what students learn in the Stock Market Game (a virtual investment simulation) by challenging them to review a long-term investment scenario and make analyst-style recommendations. Students from 4th - 12th grade work individually and explore concepts of saving and investing, asset allocation, corporate governance and more, while reinforcing their ELA skills.
- Volunteer Role: Judges represent the financial industry, scoring student essays by 4th-12th graders.
- Commitment: Each volunteer scores 4-8 essays (300-1000 words each), which takes approximately 1-2 hours.
- Guidance: Judges receive a rubric and easy instructions once essays are assigned via the InvestWrite volunteer portal.
- Timing: Sign up today, registration closes on December 13! Judging will take place January 7-9.

2) Create an account by entering your contact information and creating a password.
3) Click on “Register for InvestWrite” in the top right corner.
4) Click on “Please select user type” and select “Judge”.
5) Once you’ve completed the registration form, you will receive an email to confirm your enrollment as an InvestWrite Judge.

We are fortunate to have generous supporters whose contributions enhance the patient-family experience at our hospital and outpatient centers. Our book cart helps provide distraction and easy learning opportunities for children who are waiting for appointments at our Clark and Deming outpatient center. Every month, we hand out around 200 books to our patients. We are grateful for your support in filling our book cart with thesepopular reads that our patients love.

What You'll Do
Spend an hour with children at one of our partner schools, reading aloud stories, asking questions, and fostering critical thinking. Each volunteer will be assigned a group of 5 to 10 children of similar reading level to interact with. Some ideas on what you can do with your small group of children.
• Read Aloud a simple story book from our library (or you can bring one too), explain things around each page that is being read, ask questions on similar situations and just have a fun interactive story reading session
• You could choose an information/reference book and read out some science facts and build upon the same. You could help them retain some science facts and maybe conduct a quiz on what they remember at the end as an activity
• You could also choose your own activity conducting experiments, or leading an art project, or helping them learn technology - as simple as to how to leverage AI effectively for their daily learning.
Your goal is to inspire children to develop a love of reading and learning and mentor them. Make a Lasting Impact on Children's Lives

Storytime & Reading Comprehension w/ Children from Himalayan VillagesDescription: Join us for a heartwarming and impactful virtual volunteering experience where you can make a difference in the lives of children from vulnerable and marginalized backgrounds in remote Indian Himalayan villages. During this one-hour session, you’ll read a story to a child and engage them in a reading comprehension exercise, helping to improve their literacy skills and spark their love for learning.
Details:
What: Volunteer to read a story to a child from our Himalayan education programs. You can either select a story from our pre-approved list or receive a PDF story assigned by our team. After reading, you will guide the child through a fun and interactive reading comprehension activity.
Duration: 1 hour (45 minutes of reading + 15 minutes of comprehension exercises)
Who: Children participating come from the most vulnerable, marginalized backgrounds in rural Himalayan villages. This program provides them with valuable educational support.
Platform: Zoom or Google Meet (link will be sent to you upon sign-up)
How it works:
Sign up: Once signed up, you will receive a confirmation email and a PDF story from our list, or you can choose one from the selection provided.
Join the session: On the scheduled day, join the virtual meeting and get ready to read and interact with a child.
Read & Engage: Read the story aloud, pausing to ask questions or explain key parts of the story. After the reading, lead the child through a short comprehension exercise to test their understanding and enhance their learning.
Submit Feedback: At the end of the session, we encourage volunteers to provide feedback on the child’s engagement and progress.

We dress/ready the minis at the facilities. Thoroughly groom the minis. Clean hooves and put on hoof boots. Place therapy vest and potty bags. Safely manage equine visit. Training and safe handling practices are provided.
