Assist us in our Teaching Gardens! These gardens help us offer engaging, hands-on learning for school children on field trips, teenagers working in our Deep Roots program, and visitors to our Farmer's Market.This month's project is: Winterize the Garden
We'll be building row covers so that we can easily cover plants for the first frost. We will also harvest loofahs, squash, and melons ahead of the first frost and talk about steps you can take to protect tender perennials over the winter.
We'll be working on planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, and special projects. No experience required. For this project, volunteers should be able to bend and stoop to the ground for planting. Please dress for the weather, and consider a hat, sunscreen, and bug spray. Bring your own garden gloves, if you have them; if you do not bring them, garden gloves will be provided.

Help us build mounds and plant several corn varieties for our 3 sisters demonstration (corns, bean, squash). We will discuss the benefits of companion planting, and will demonstrate a technique used by Native Americans. If we have time, we’ll also plant Texas Black Amber Molasses and talk about its history in the region (and on Herff Farm!).

Opportunity Details
We celebrate , educate, and engage the community in stewardship of our Earth. Free education sessions are held throughout the day. We host a Kids Zone for arts and crafts. Vendors will be present with all your Earth Related education and items for purchase. Seed2Seed will be giving free tours of our Sustainable Education farm.
