Opportunity Details
Women and families come into our programs needing the most basic items. We rely on the community for donations of personal care items to create toiletry, hygiene, and warming kits to give to families and individuals in our programs. #Give2024How to Collect and Assemble Hygiene Kits for the YWCA:
1. Sign up and we’ll contact you to confirm and give you more information about the toiletry and hygiene items we accept and examples of what kits can include.
2. Your team purchases the items you'd like to include in your hygiene kits.
3. Host a packing party for your group to assemble your kits and even write encouraging cards or notes to include inside the kits for their recipients. A YWCA staff can come onsite to facilitate this and present your group with more info on YWCA and our programming.
4. Contact us to let us know when you can drop off your items. Our offices are open Monday through Friday 9:30 AM—5:00 PM. Please contact us before you drop off. We have carts to help you unload.

Help impact families in your community by donating new and gently used household items critically needed by YWCA program participants and residents. Families come into our programs needing the most basic items. We rely on the community for donations of kitchen and household goods to give to families moving into emergency housing. #Give2024How to Host a Drive for the YWCA:
1. Sign up to host a drive and we’ll contact you to confirm your drive and give you more information about the kitchen, household, and toiletry items we accept.
2. Spread the word—signs, emails, flyers, we can provide you with information and resources
3. Post signs on boxes or bins and collect items. We can provide logo images to use for your drive.
4. Contact us to let us know when you can drop off your items. Our offices are open Monday through Friday 9:30 AM—5:00 PM. Please contact us before you drop off. We have carts to help you unload and can offer in-kind donation receipts for your donors.
5. Your group is welcome to come to one of our facilities to sort your collected donations or pack items for families or programs.

Angeline's prepares and serves three hot meals daily. We are seeking volunteers to help with meal service and clean up for the breakfast and lunch services. Volunteers must be comfortable interacting with homeless women and aware of common behaviors in a shelter environment. Volunteers must also dress for a kitchen environment; non-slip shoes required. More than 200 women each day access Angeline's drop-in services, which includes meals, laundry, showers, lockers, and connections to community resources. More than 1,000 Special Olympics Virginia athletes and coaches across the state will be participating in this weekend tournament to find the teams who exemplify teamwork, leadership and hard work on the court. The YWCA Literary Council provides free classes through group and individualized tutoring programs to adults seeking to enhance the quality of their lives by improving their English language comprehension, reading, writing, and English as a second language (ESL) skills.If you are passionate about literacy and interested in making a meaningful difference in someone’s life, consider volunteering as a tutor.
Tutors must be at least 18 years old, live in the state of Illinois, and have earned a high school diploma or GED. No previous teaching experience is required. Tutors are required to participate in a training workshop before being paired with a student.
Tutors are asked to commit to two hours a week, at the time and a public location of their choice. Tutoring sessions can take place virtually or in person. In-person locations may include the public library, coffee shops, or the YWCA Literacy Council learning center.

The YWCA Family Center is an emergency shelter for families who are experiencing homelessness.
